Collaborative Sign Design – Cambridge Pallet

From Networking To Collaboration
Networking has always been a focus for The Sign Depot. Through networking we build great business relationships within our community. This is how the Cambridge Pallet reception sign came about. Through connecting with Jorge Meneses we were able to refer business back and forth between our companies and learn more about our interests outside of our companies as well. In fact we are now committee members for Movember KW, swap vacation stories and assist each other with community involvement fundraising events. Because we have gotten to know each other well throughout the years, when it came to creating a sign for Cambridge Pallet, it became a collaborative effort.
Sharing Sign Design Ideas
Jorge had let us know that Cambridge Pallet was looking for an interior sign for their office area. He envisioned steel letters in the reception area. We suggested to take it one step further and have a replica wood pallet added to the sign design. These sign ideas were put together to create a sign that reflects their company and their brand. While this might not be the exact definition of collaborative design, we feel that this was a great way to work together to create a unique 3 dimensional sign.
Building A Pallet Sign
To create the pallet sign we began with MDF board, which is a great material for interior signage. It was cut and assembled to replicate a wood pallet.

It was then finished to match the colour they use for their pallets. After the paint finish was complete, the text portion was added to the sign project. The brushed metal letters were pin mounted to the sign to create dimension.

Once the sign was fully assembled, our installers placed in the reception area of Cambridge Pallet. Since its arrival both staff and clients have remarked with how much they like the new sign and that it is a great representation of the company.

Outdoor Dining and 3 Dimensional Signs at Dels
Dear Dels, We Love What You’ve Done With The Place
Approximately four years ago the expert sign-makers here at THE SIGN DEPOT were busy with the signage rebranding of Del Dente to the Dels Enoteca Pizzeria. If you read our earlier post you know the change was quite significant, and you are aware that they were able to re-purpose the original 3 dimensional sign to different part of the building. Fast forward to present-day and the restaurant has upped their game once again. They have created a very inviting outdoor dining space. This Al Fresco dining area, known as #DelFresco, is a charming patio that provides a wonderful dinner spot for the summer. It even has an area for you bring an extra special guest that normally wouldn’t be able to join you while eating at the establishment.
Pet Friendly Patio
The addition of pet beds and water dishes make it a welcoming spot to bring SPOT along with you! This means you can now bring your dog to your fancy Italian dinner.
Outdoor Decor
Beyond the wood tables and the pet area, the Dels Patio is surrounded by bountiful flowers and plants and the signage provides great accents to this fresh air atmosphere.

The custom crafted utensils and dimensional signage serves as a backdrop for the new dining area and because it is a lit sign you can easily find your way to the patio during the evening hours. Open air dining is great way to enjoy warm summer nights and we think the new Dels Patio is the perfect place to try before the summertime ends.

Lykke – Minded 3 Dimensional Signs
The Danish Have Done It Again
In 2017 we told you about Danish HYGGE and LAGOM and what they have to do with signage. Once again they are bringing a new sensation to North America. LYKKE is the new Danish word at the tip of our tongues and we think our 3 dimensional signs fit the bill perfectly. According to The Little Book of Lykke: The Danish Search for the World’s Happiest People, lykke means Happiness but it has shown that people feel much happier if they call happiness Lykke rather than Happiness. Here at The Sign Depot we want all of our signs to bring people happiness, and while we work hard to accomplish that with all of custom signs, our whimsical 3 dimensional signage provides an extra layer of lykke to the mix.
Bring On The Happiness With Our Lykke – Minded 3 Dimensional Signs
Many of our 3 dimensional signs are made from layered High Density Urethane, often referred to as HDU. They are created in our workshop on our CNC router table. Once the form is cut, it is up to our expert sign-makers to shape the sign into the object of our client’s choice. Over the years we have created many sign structures that bring smiles to faces. We think it makes it “Lykke – Minded” signage. You can see examples in the images below.

Spring Into Action
Spring is in the air (most days), and it is often known as a time of renewal. Now that the spring season has arrived it is time to see how you can refresh your business. Could it use a little HYGGE, LAGOM and/or LYKKE? Finding the right recipe for your company is something we can assist with. Just visit our CONTACT US page to connect with one of our sign experts. Together they can provide you with the signage that best suits your business. Do you LIKE (or LYKKE) that idea? Let us know in the comments. We always appreciate hearing from our readers.

3 Dimensional Signs, Interactive Displays, Plinko Boards And More
Creating Engagement With 3 Dimensional Signs
Finding ways for companies to interact and stay engaged with their clients is very important. Being memorable is one of our 3 Keys To A Successful Trade Show. It keeps your business top of mind with your current and potential customers and helps to increase brand awareness about your company. Using 3 dimensional signs to create engagement with the public may not something you have thought of, but you can see by the examples below, interactive displays can get your info shared to a larger audience.
Providing Plinko Games To Gain An Audience
While many of our clients already come to us for unique signs for their trade shows and customer appreciation events, some really want to ensure that the audience takes the time to visit their display. This is when a PLINKO game can make an impact. While Heffner Toyota uses their custom Plinko game for customer promotions, The Great Canadian Meat Company is taking theirs to upcoming trade shows and the Portland Trail Blazers use theirs to interact with fans. Each of these circumstances create memorable experiences between the brand and their audience.

Interactive Sign Displays
When it comes to creating buzz about your brand, social media is one of the best ways to spread your message. Most people think of interactive displays as immersive virtual reality or augmented reality experiences, but any display that people interact with counts as well. Souvenir City came to Sign Depot to create a 3 dimensional sign structure to use as a photo booth prop for their Niagara Falls location. As you can see by tweet below, their visitors are putting it to good use by snapping photos and posting it on social media channels.

3 Dimensional Social Signs For Sociable Kitchen + Tavern
Refreshing The Restaurant
If you are familiar with the Moose Winooskis Restaurant in Brantford Ontario, you may want to stop by soon to see their rebranded restaurant. The Charcoal Group of Restaurants have made a lot of changes to the location and it is now known as Sociable Kitchen + Tavern. The new concept is inspired by a sea can shipping container and they wanted to incorporate 3 dimensional signs that would represent the new image for the establishment.
Sociable Signage Step By Step
The idea behind this signage project was to create the look of a vintage metal marquee sign. It began with a refurbished metal structure which would be large enough to carry all the extras that would be added to the sign.
The PVC was cut to look like the sides of a sea can shipping container
Then dimensional can letters were applied to the textured PVC backer that was carved on CNC router table.
Next metal directional arrows were fabricated and given a Modern Masters Rust Finish. Then clear acrylic rounds were cut to represent lit light bulbs and added to the arrows.
All of these pieces were layered on to the metal structure and then wired with LEDs to light up the sign.
The next step was to transport the sign to Brantford for installation.
The final part of this project was installation on the building. The images and video below are courtesy of The Charcoal Group.

3 Dimensional Signs Score Big With Shoeless Joes
Restaurant Signs For Hockey Fans
Shoeless Joes North Bay opened it’s doors just in time for hockey season and wanted the atmosphere to reflect Canada’s Game.
This meant creating unique signage to match the hockey theme of this restaurant. The sign requirements for this project included a hockey stick maple leaf and a hockey lace framed sign. Both projects had several steps to acheive a proper 3 dimesional look for the signs.
Hockey Lace Sign
The LACE UP dimensional sign had several components to it. It began with individual cnc cut letters that were finished red and then wrapped with actual hockey laces.
Next the metal frame was also painted red and the hockey lace was threaded through the frame to create a web.
Then the sign was assembled and installed in the restaurant’s interior.
Maple Leaf Hockey Stick Sign
The hockey stick sign was created to be 3 dimensional as well. It started with a variety of stacked hockey sticks cut to form the half maple leaf.
They were then attached to a plywood backer.
Once assembled it was mounted on to clear acrylic with a scratched ice look. The scratched ice look was created by applying vinyl frosting behind the acrylic piece. Then the full sign was installed inside the restaurant.
Adding To The Atmosphere
Both of these signs have a very different looks but blend well with the surrounding atmosphere of the restaurant. They are themed pieces that are noticable, but will not distract from the sports being played on their television screens. Together they enhance the patrons’ experience of being immersed in the hockey world.

Creating A 3 Dimensional Sign For Kitestring Creative Branding Studio
Creating With The Creatives
Over the years we have created several 3 dimensional signs. Some signs have been designed here in house while others have come with the sign design in place and required us to fabricate their signage to their specifications. In this case Kitestring Creative Branding Studio had all the pieces “almost” in place. By pieces, I mean they wanted a layered 3 dimensional sign for their Hamilton Ontario office space. They came to us with the design specifications in hand and it was up to the expert signmakers here at The Sign Depot to piece the project together.
Dimension By Design
The design for the interior sign included a brushed aluminum backer topped with a black panel with individual letter cutouts, and the addition of acrylic pieces finished to match the Kitesting logo.
Once assembled the 3 dimensional sign was ready for it’s new home at the Kitestring office.
Stand Out From The Surroundings
The use of colour and dimension worked well and gave the sleek sign an extra level of style and sofistication that fit well in the workspace. As you can see from the installed image below, the sign stands out from its surrounding area.
It stands out two ways. First, the 3 dimensional sign literally stands out from the wall and second, the sign becomes a focal point for the room.
Bring Your Brand To The Forefront
Do you have a office space that could use some attention? Does your reception area need to be more receptive to clients? Perhaps a 3 dimensional sign could be the professional edge that you need for your workspace. It may even assist in bringing the branding of your business to the forefront of your industry. 3 Dimensional Streetcar Sign Structure Created For The Toronto 2015 PanAm Games
Toronto 2015 PanAm Games
The big news for the summer of 2015 is that the Pan Am Games were held in Toronto Ontario. Athletes from several different countries arrived in Toronto Ontario Canada to compete in several sporting events.
Several months before the big event was held, the Pan Am torch headed across Canada and even make a stop in front of the 3 dimensional Beertown Waterloo sign we manufactured. You can see the image on our FACEBOOK PAGE.
Once the Pan Am Games torch arrived in Toronto it was time for the games to begin!
Pan Am Games Athletes’ Village
Because thousands of athletes participate in the Pan Am Games an Athletes’ Village was created to house them during their stay in Canada. Part of the residential area included a Food Court/Dining Area for the athletes. Within that building a 3 dimensional sign structure of a replica streetcar was designed for the food court by Cricket Design and fabricated by the expert signmakers here at The Sign Depot.
See our installers in action on our FACEBOOK PAGE.
Here is how the 3 dimensional sign structure looked after the installation was completed.
You can even see a partial glimpse of it at the 59 second mark in this Kids CBC video below. The video presentation was created for the Pan Am Games Opening Ceremonies, which was broadcasted coast to coast on the CBC Televison Network.

3 Dimensional Casino Signs – Grand Buffet
Our Niagara Falls Signs Now Include Fallsview Casino
Over the years we have created several sign structures for Niagara Falls Ontario Canada attractions. The 3 dimensional signs that we create become landmarks for their tourist destinations. There is now an addition to the Niagara Falls signage list with the interior sign created for Fallsview Casino.
On A Grand Scale
The interior sign for Fallsview Casino’s Grand Buffet was manufactured in several stages here in our workshop then assembled for testing. The project was all about layering through a multi-level sign design process.
The Grand Buffet Sign – Step By Step
The workshop here at The Sign Depot began to look more like a tropical floral display during the fabrication of the Grand Buffet sign. It began with Ritch, our CNC router table expert, cutting the shapes from acrylic and HDU to start the sign formation.
After all the 3 dimensional shapes had been cut, they were taken to the paint room for finishing.
Then the layering and assembly began.
Ben our vinyl master added detail to the floral pieces for the sign.
Then channel letters were affixed to the alupanel backer in order to begin lighting the sign.
The sign was lit with LEDs which are very effiecient to run.
Additional colour changing face lit and halo lit LEDs were added to the custom floral pieces.
Then both types of LEDs were tested together to ensure they would work in unison.
Then the full sign was assembled and lit, then taken apart and taken to Fallsview Casino and installed in the interior space.
Below is a video demostration of the colour changing LEDs in the flower display areas of the sign (with background shop sounds included for your enjoyment).
The next time you find yourself in Niagara Falls Ontario Canada, be sure let us know if you visited Fallsview Casino and what you thought of the 3 dimensional Grand Buffet sign!

3 Dimensional Signs Now Shipping To Las Vegas
Sending Signs To Las Vegas For The First Time
It often seen as a pinnacle in a signmaker’s career to have one of their signs installed in Las Vegas. After 20 years in business The Sign Depot is thrilled to announce we now have reached that goal. Last month we created a vintage-look 3 dimensional sign for Hearthstone Kitchen & Cellar Restaurant located at the Red Rock Casino Resort.
Our Work Is A Reflection Of Your Business And Of Our Craftsmanship
Peter Moir, owner here at Sign Depot always states that the signs we make are a reflection of the business we develop it for, and shows just how talented our expert signmakers are. This often results in calls from companies saying they saw a sign they liked and asked the owner where they got it made and are contacting us to see if we could make a similar one for them. That is the way this signage project for Hearthstone came about. The design team from Munge Leung contacted us about a client of theirs that wanted a sign like the one we created for Gusto 101. That phone call led to the 3 dimensional sign for Hearthstone Kitchen & Cellar.
Finding The Right Fit With Custom Fabrication And Finishes
Creating this vintage looking sign had multiple steps.
1. Custom cut script was created and finished
2. Cut out individual letters were also part of the business name on the sign
3. The letters were affixed to a custom crafted backer
4. Faux rust finish was applied
5. The sign was fitted with LEDs
This is how it looks now that it has been installed in Las Vegas.
This project became quite a grand showpiece for the restaurant, which opened just recently, and we anticipate it will be successful addition to this travel destination.
