A New Landmark For Waterloo Region When St Jacobs Market Opens Its New Building
St Jacobs Market Celebrates Their New Landmark
It was last October when we wrote about Canada Am visiting the St Jacobs Farmers’ Market. Now the St Jacobs Market has more exciting news to share. After their landmark building was destroyed by a fire, they are now ready to unveil their new building this Thursday June 11, 2015. They will be opening the new market building to the public that morning. For those who live in The Region Of Waterloo this is exciting news. So much so that when The Sign Depot sign installers were putting the sign on the building’s exterior it managed to garner a bit of attention from the local media.
It feels familiar, but the new @stjacobsmarket isn't a 100% duplicate. Here's @DavidImrieCTV: http://t.co/Rk6d9Np2IY pic.twitter.com/4UcMCZPI0H

Farm Market Signs
When it comes to Farm Market Signs there are several choices. The St Jacobs Farmers’ Market wanted to ensure that the signage for the new building was highly visiable from various spots at the market. To acheive this PVC letters were router cut and finished white. The white letters installed against the red exterior of the building created a lot of contrast and as the image below shows, it allows you to see the new market building from quite a distance.
Tourist Landmark
The St Jacobs Farmers’ Market serves as year round landmark destination for tourists. People visit the St Jacobs Market by the busload, so ensuring they can find their way around the market is incredibly important. Whether it be building signage or wayfinding signs, having a points of direction or places to meet at a busy place like a farm market makes getting around a lot simplier for those not familiar with the surroundings.
Have you heard of the St Jacobs Farmers’ Market before? Did it inspire you to come to The Region Of Waterloo for a visit? Let us know in the comments! We want to hear about your experience there, or about any farm market you frequent.

3 Dimensional Signs – How Street Signs Can Increase Business
Sometimes It’s Helpful To Throw A Wrench In Your Plans
Here on Borden Ave in Kitchener Ontario we get a lot of drive-by traffic. Finding ways to capture the attention of passers-by can prove to be difficult for some businesses. We often suggest that you walk across the street from your business and take a look at your building’s exterior. Do you think the company storefront will stand out to those passing by at 50 km/h?
When Integraflift moved into our neighbourhood last year, they encountered this problem and the solution involved throwing a wrench in their plans.
3 Dimensional Sign Displayed For All To See
The idea for the Integralift sign was to highlight all of the services they provide. Everything from forklift sales, to automobile repair. The signage package included two exterior business signs with the company’s contact information and the services they have. In addition to the exterior signs, a 3 Dimensional sign was added to the mix. Using High Density Urethane (a signfoam often referred to as HDU), the sign experts here at The Sign Depot created a oversized wrench. This scupltural projection sign was created to grab the attention of the passing traffic, and serve as a landmark sign for the business.
The Best Business Signs Make An Impact
When the project was completed and installed Dennis, the owner of Integralift, let us know that the new signs made quite an impact. He received new business from people who thought they had just opened and had no idea that Integralift had been there for a year already.
Here at The Sign Depot we encourage our clients to think of their custom signs as an investment in their company. They are a 24 hour advertisment for your business and a display of what your company represents. These are things to think about when budgeting for your signage upgrades and branding designs.
Finding ways to show off your company’s assets through signage is something we excel at. For more information on how street signs can increase business awareness and 3 dimensional signs, be sure to visit our Contact Us Page or connect with us on Twitter and Facebook.

Have Your Custom Business Sign Made From Wood Or High Density Urethane
Using 3 Dimensional Signs To Stand Out From Other Businesses
Have you ever thought of your business sign as a landmark? When people give directions is your business often mentioned as part of the mix? These are signs that your business sign stands out from the rest. Your business is noticeable and recognizable to passers-by which means you are memorable to many. Dimensional signs are great eye-catchers and with the choice of Sandblasted Wood Signs or High Density Urethane (HDU), dimensional signs and structures can create a distinctive look for your brand.
Dimensional Cedar Signs
Custom western red cedar signs are a great choice when looking to create dimensional look. There are a couple of ways which wood can achieve the desired look.
- V-Cut Grove signs are carved by a router to sink the letters/graphics into the wood
- Sandblasted signs create dimension by blasting away the cedar to raise the wooden text and logos to make them the prominent part of the sign
Both the techniques are great ways to use wood for your business signs.
Dimensional High Density Urethane Signs (HDU)
High Density Urethane otherwise known as Sign Foam or HDU signs are becoming more and more popular in the business industry. Finding a Sign Company that can easily manipulate that material is the key to having the sign look amazing. By using a CNC machine and well designed sign file, High Density Urethane can be transformed into almost anything.
Either sign substrate choice will make your business sign stand out, and make your business look outstanding! 3 Dimensional Signs – Creating A Landmark Sign
Creating a Landmark – Souvenir City Vase
Next a welded steel super structure was manufactured to keep the dimensional sign centred and rigid. This was attached to a fabricated mounting plate.
The turned vase was then installed onto the steel post and surface coated in two layers of 6oz. woven fiberglass cloth to begin the custom sign finishing process
Finally, a crack paint job by Dave to replicate the character of translucent glass. A clear UV top coat to hold the colour, and wax to accentuate the shine on our latest sign prop.
Once this 3 dimensional signs was done and installed it was hard to miss. This is where custom sculptural signs come into play for your company’s findability and wayfinding sign solutions. They become a focal point for passers-by. These 3 dimensional signs get you noticed and make your business memorable.
Even while we were installing this signs folks were stopping by getting their picture taken in front of the vase. They would then make their way into the store and exit with bags in hand. The 3 dimensional vase was already proving to be a worthwhile advertising investment.
