Creating Custom Business Signs That Work For Your Business

Award Winning Custom Business Sign - The Sign Depot

Do You Realize That Your Sign Is Working Hard For You?

Many businesses think of their signs as an address marker but they are so much more than that.  A custom business sign is an extension of your company’s brand and it serves as a 24 hour advertisement for your business.  That means your sign is working to expand your business by attracting new customers to your location.  By choosing a sign that reflects the standards for your business, you are conveying what you are able to offer consumers.  Some of these items may include

  • Quality
  • Welcoming Atmosphere
  • Transparency
  • Attention Detail
These are just a few ways that your custom business signs show your potential customers what they can expect from you.

Open The Door To New Business

Sometimes just getting them in the door is all it takes to showcase all that your business has to offer.  By choosing a sign design that allows your establishment to look approachable and friendly you are sending out signals to passers-by that your company is inviting and looking forward to having them pop in.  They see it as a new experience and you should see it as an opportunity to introduce them to your business.

Leave Your Mark As A Landmark

Some of the best landmarks in a community are business signs.  Think of when you are giving directions to someone new in town that is not familiar with the street names yet.  You will often give them landmarks to let them know how to arrive at their destination.  Make sure your business is a landmark in the area.  Make it easy to recognize from a distance to ensure your company is easy to find and memorable to someone new.

Bringing Custom Business Bike Signs To Berlin Bicycle Cafe

Finding The Right Custom Sign Is Like Finding The Right Ride

Finding the right fit when it comes to custom business signs is like finding the right bike.

When Berlin Bicycle Cafe wanted to ensure that their signage was highly visible in the busy Belmont Village, they came to The Sign Depot to create signs for their exterior and rooftop.   This was to let people know that their cafe was more than just coffee.  They wanted to create a community for bicycle commuters that were passionate about bikes and being social over a cup of coffee.

Fabricating And Installing The Bike Themed Signage

The rooftop sign had to resemble a bicycle, but be sturdy enough to handle the elements.

Whether the traffic is by vehicle, pedestrians walking by or those biking in the area, the Berlin Bicycle Cafe custom business signage is noticeable from all directions.  When you are in a high traffic area, catching the busy passers-by can be a difficult task, but as you can see in the final installation image below, this establishment is making it’s mark.

Custom Business Sign On Brand For In Vintage We Trust

Finding The Right Fit

In Vintage We Trust began as an online store curating vintage clothing styles for their clients.  When the decided to open a retail flagship store in Toronto they wanted their signage to fit with the brand they had built.  They wanted a vintage look custom business sign similar to the Gusto101 Restaurant sign that had caught their eye.  As any internet savvy business would do, they took to the web and googled Gusto101 sign and The Sign Depot was suddenly on their radar. Much like an online website, a sign is a 24 hour advertisment for your business and you should always ensure it fits with your brand. The owners of In Vintage We Trust knew this to be true and contacted us regarding their exterior signage.

Getting That Vintage Look

When the In Vintage We Trust owners collaberated with the expert sign designers here at Sign Depot, the custom sign concept they conceived was to create a very visable sign but have it look like it was right out of the past.  The sign material used was an aluminum composite, to give the look of an old tin sign, but be durable enough to withstand various weather conditions.  Their logo and business text was hand painted with 1 shot paint (know to those in the signage industry as the go to paint for sign makers). The paint was distressed to give the look of a weathered exterior sign and then a faux rust finish was applied to the sign further the pantia look. All of these steps were crucial in order for the In Vintage We Trust custom business sign to fit their brand while catching the interest of passers-by.

Customer Referrals And Custom Business Signs

Why Waterloo Smiles Custom Business Sign Makes Us So Enthusiastic

Last month we installed the custom business sign for Robins Goldsmithing.  During this process Waterloo Smiles was in the midst of moving in to the same building.  They spoke with Robins Goldsmithing in regards to who was creating their signs and Robins Goldsmithing gave them our name.  We often have companies let us know they were referred to us by others who said they had a great experience working with us. We here at The Sign Depot think that is the best testimonial we can receive.  We take pride in creating custom signs that exceed our clients’ expectations, and knowing they passing the word on about our work to others brings our enthusiasm about signs to a whole new level.

Putting A Smile On The Face Of A Sign

The exterior sign for Waterloo Smiles was mix of sign manufacturing techniques.  Acrylic push through letters were lit with white LEDs to stand out from the black finished sign face. This mix of materials created contrast for this eye-catching outdoor sign which was then installed on the front of the building to create an inviting entrance-way.

Build Your Business With Julia Rosien

This month The Sign Depot is featuring a few of our Sign Depot Demo Day attendees that are in the Business Marketing Industry.  When we wanted to improve the SEO of The Sign Depot’s website we went straight to Julia Rosien.  Her ability to clarify and create focus for our online pressence has made an impact on our site as well as our custom sign business. We chatted with Julia Rosien of SocialNorth to get her take on marketing in the modern age.

Get To Know Julia Rosien

Julia can you tell us the nature of your business, SocialNorth and how you got started?

SocialNorth is my pearl. It was that grain of sand that grew out of working for a company fast-tracking to bankruptcy. I was reporting to a president who allowed his employees to shoulder the burden of his mismanagement and the stress was unreal. As the communications director and the online spokesperson for the company, the negativity spurred a need to leave for my own survival.

Thankfully, I’m married to this guy who believes in me and together we dreamed up SocialNorth. He is an integral part of the organization and deserves kudos for his faith and patience in putting up with me.

SocialNorth specializes in social media (strategy and community management), SEO, copy writing and content strategies.

Knowing your background in journalism, what do you think are some of the differences between traditional media marketing and social media marketing?

As a journalist, I was trained to remove myself from the story – to present it from a non-emotional, balanced perspective. Social media puts your heart into the middle of your reporting – it’s expected that you’ll share your opinions and personal experiences. One thing hasn’t changed though – the need for strong communication skills. I’m always amazed when I see bloggers and community managers make silly typos or spelling mistakes. Quality is still far more important than quantity.

What knowledge do you hope your clients learn from you?

When I’m working with a client, I hope I pass on as many of my skills as possible – and the confidence to get out there and do it. I want them to be 100% successful after I’m finished with their strategy, training and coaching. They hire me to contribute to their success and I’d be disappointed if they didn’t soak up as much from me as possible during our time together.

What online marketing trends should we be watching for?

Mobile and video. If you’re not looking at how people are using both of these, you’re already late to the game.

How do you stand out from others in your field?

While SocialNorth is still a small company, we’re big with ideas and our team never fails to deliver in unexpected and amazing ways. I’ve always made working with younger people part of my strategy. People just beginning their careers are still full of big, beautiful ideas. Their fearless energy is contagious and it pushes me to think beyond what my training and career has taught me. When my clients come to me, they know they’re going to get a lot of great ideas coupled with a maturity that comes from being through more than my fair share of corporate crisis’.

I would also like to think that my clients come to me because they know I’m as ridiculously attentive to detail as I am to creativity. Failure is simply not an option.

Want to learn more about Julia Rosien and Social North? Make sure to RSVP for our Sign Depot Demo Day on June 20th to network with Julia and many other fantastic business industry professionals. There you will see the behind the scenes of The Sign Depot just like Julia did.

We wanted to ensure that we were able to stand out at the CRFA Show as well, so were able to secure a spot directly across from the Chef’s Cooking Stage.  Here’s a look at our surroundings.

This was a highly visible area with lots of traffic travelling by our booth.  We even had some familiar faces stop by.  We had the fine folks from Baden Coffee and Herrles Market pop by our CRFA booth.

Then we had our own Artistic Flair Bartending demonstration happen at our Sign Depot booth.

How Much Would It Cost To Create A Sign For My Business?

That was only one of the many questions we answered at our booth.  We had our slide show running through the trade show to exhibit the variety of custom 3 dimensional signs we have created. Many of these sign projects would have been too big for our display booth, but we knew it was important to cover all the types of signs we can create.  The reactions we varied from “I recognize that sign” to “How much would it cost to create a sign like that for my business?” We always have time to answer those questions.  Requesting a quote is easy to do.  Just head over to our Contact Us page and let us know the following

  1. How big should your sign be?  Including measurements streamlines the process
  2. What is your budget for the sign project?
  3. Do you have any logo, text or graphics that should be incorporated into the sign?

These three questions are great ways to get your sign quote started.  After approval, your signs will be handcrafted here in our workshop to your specifications. As your sign supplier, our goal is to exceed your expectations. Professional looking signs are expected from high end industries. We are always looking for different ways to connect with Industry Professionals.
