Creating Engagement With 3 Dimensional Signs
Finding ways for companies to interact and stay engaged with their clients is very important. Being memorable is one of our 3 Keys To A Successful Trade Show. It keeps your business top of mind with your current and potential customers and helps to increase brand awareness about your company. Using 3 dimensional signs to create engagement with the public may not something you have thought of, but you can see by the examples below, interactive displays can get your info shared to a larger audience.
Providing Plinko Games To Gain An Audience
While many of our clients already come to us for unique signs for their trade shows and customer appreciation events, some really want to ensure that the audience takes the time to visit their display. This is when a PLINKO game can make an impact. While Heffner Toyota uses their custom Plinko game for customer promotions, The Great Canadian Meat Company is taking theirs to upcoming trade shows and the Portland Trail Blazers use theirs to interact with fans. Each of these circumstances create memorable experiences between the brand and their audience.

Interactive Sign Displays
When it comes to creating buzz about your brand, social media is one of the best ways to spread your message. Most people think of interactive displays as immersive virtual reality or augmented reality experiences, but any display that people interact with counts as well. Souvenir City came to Sign Depot to create a 3 dimensional sign structure to use as a photo booth prop for their Niagara Falls location. As you can see by tweet below, their visitors are putting it to good use by snapping photos and posting it on social media channels.

Essential Steps For Branding And Rebranding With Signs – Kindred Credit Union
Begin Branding Your Business With Signs
When it comes to creating a business brand the best place to start is within your local community and once your brand is recognizable expand it from there. Make sure you find a way to make your mark and stay top of mind with potential customers with your business signs. They are often the first impression for your business so it is important to connect with a full service sign shop that can cover all of your signage needs.
When To Rebrand
When your business decides to rebrand it could be for various reasons. One being to refocus a company. In the case of Kindred Credit Union they decided to focus on growth when they changed their branding from Mennonite Savings and Credit Union to Kindred Credit Union. It is important when rebranding that you take the necessary steps to ensure your new branding is known to all. According to the article 7 Steps to a Successful Rebrand
“once you have established who and what you want to be, do not change it except for tweaks and slight adjustments. It takes 10 to 12 ‘touches’ for a customer to even notice you. Keep going long after you think everyone must have seen the new brand. Trust me—they haven’t”
This is where rebranding with signs plays an important role.
4 Steps For Rebranding With Signs
Just as Kindred Credit Union did we suggest you follow these steps when rebranding a business.
Begin with banners. Do not keep referring to your old messaging once you have decided to rebrand. Let your current clients know that changes are coming by removing existing signs and logos and replacing them with temporary banners during the switch over.
Make sure your new branding stands out. In the case of Kindred Credit Union this is a literal statement. With their choice of vibrant colours and 3 dimensional signs, their new branding made a bright and bold impact in relation to their surroundings.
Bring The Outdoors In. Kindred Credit Union ensured that their rebrand was consistent from the time you walked up to their location, and continued it throughout your experience inside their building. Their exterior signs were created to be highly visible from a distance and once entering their establishment, the installation of focal point reception signs made to match the exterior signage, continued the visual flow for the clients arriving for their banking needs.
Get The Word Out. Once they finished rebranding an establishment they invited the community to come and see the locations new look. This assists in educating the public on all they have to offer.

3 Dimensional Social Signs For Sociable Kitchen + Tavern
Refreshing The Restaurant
If you are familiar with the Moose Winooskis Restaurant in Brantford Ontario, you may want to stop by soon to see their rebranded restaurant. The Charcoal Group of Restaurants have made a lot of changes to the location and it is now known as Sociable Kitchen + Tavern. The new concept is inspired by a sea can shipping container and they wanted to incorporate 3 dimensional signs that would represent the new image for the establishment.
Sociable Signage Step By Step
The idea behind this signage project was to create the look of a vintage metal marquee sign. It began with a refurbished metal structure which would be large enough to carry all the extras that would be added to the sign.
The PVC was cut to look like the sides of a sea can shipping container
Then dimensional can letters were applied to the textured PVC backer that was carved on CNC router table.
Next metal directional arrows were fabricated and given a Modern Masters Rust Finish. Then clear acrylic rounds were cut to represent lit light bulbs and added to the arrows.
All of these pieces were layered on to the metal structure and then wired with LEDs to light up the sign.
The next step was to transport the sign to Brantford for installation.
The final part of this project was installation on the building. The images and video below are courtesy of The Charcoal Group.

3 Dimensional Signs Score Big With Shoeless Joes
Restaurant Signs For Hockey Fans
Shoeless Joes North Bay opened it’s doors just in time for hockey season and wanted the atmosphere to reflect Canada’s Game.
This meant creating unique signage to match the hockey theme of this restaurant. The sign requirements for this project included a hockey stick maple leaf and a hockey lace framed sign. Both projects had several steps to acheive a proper 3 dimesional look for the signs.
Hockey Lace Sign
The LACE UP dimensional sign had several components to it. It began with individual cnc cut letters that were finished red and then wrapped with actual hockey laces.
Next the metal frame was also painted red and the hockey lace was threaded through the frame to create a web.
Then the sign was assembled and installed in the restaurant’s interior.
Maple Leaf Hockey Stick Sign
The hockey stick sign was created to be 3 dimensional as well. It started with a variety of stacked hockey sticks cut to form the half maple leaf.
They were then attached to a plywood backer.
Once assembled it was mounted on to clear acrylic with a scratched ice look. The scratched ice look was created by applying vinyl frosting behind the acrylic piece. Then the full sign was installed inside the restaurant.
Adding To The Atmosphere
Both of these signs have a very different looks but blend well with the surrounding atmosphere of the restaurant. They are themed pieces that are noticable, but will not distract from the sports being played on their television screens. Together they enhance the patrons’ experience of being immersed in the hockey world.

Del Dente To Dels Dimensional Signs
Adding Dimension To The Dels Enoteca Pizzeria
If you have visited Kitchener Waterloo Ontario there is a very good chance you have noticed the Charcoal Restaurant dimensional signs on the exterior of their building.
The Charcoal Group, known for their foreward thinking in the food industry, made the decision to rebrand their Del Dente Restaurant to Dels Enoteca Pizzeria. As described on their website the new logo was born out of the idea that our cuisine is an art form. The shape behind the word dels is a graphic representation of a hand-made pizza dough as well as a spot of sauce that might have splashed onto the chef’s coat when they took the first taste-test. Or, it is the splash of paint from an artist’s paintbrush. The customized font to represent ‘dels’ reminds us of spaghetti or linguine noodles and it exudes a fun and approachable feeling. The logo and identity will embrace that feeling that will flow into all touch points that the guest might see or touch. To bring the brand identity to the forefront during the establishment’s renovations, our expert sign-makers created dimensional signs to reflect the restaurant refresh.
Rebrand, Remove, Renew, Refresh and Repurpose During Restaurant Renovations
There were several steps involved in the Dels Enoteca Pizzeria Signage Package. Once the rebranding renovations began, time was of the essence to change over the Del Dente dimensional sign to #TheNewDels signs.
Removal of the iconic sign
Installation of temporary signage
Construction of new dimensional signs
Refurbishing of previous sign pieces
Installation of the new signage package
If you check out the video below you will see that several artistic signs were fabricated for Dels as well as some of their other signs were repurposed for the project.
Although they are no longer in their original spots they have been installed in new locations around the building. If you happen to see any of these dimensional signs while you are at the restaurant, be sure to tweet us a pic!
3 Dimensional Signs – How Street Signs Can Increase Business
Sometimes It’s Helpful To Throw A Wrench In Your Plans
Here on Borden Ave in Kitchener Ontario we get a lot of drive-by traffic. Finding ways to capture the attention of passers-by can prove to be difficult for some businesses. We often suggest that you walk across the street from your business and take a look at your building’s exterior. Do you think the company storefront will stand out to those passing by at 50 km/h?
When Integraflift moved into our neighbourhood last year, they encountered this problem and the solution involved throwing a wrench in their plans.
3 Dimensional Sign Displayed For All To See
The idea for the Integralift sign was to highlight all of the services they provide. Everything from forklift sales, to automobile repair. The signage package included two exterior business signs with the company’s contact information and the services they have. In addition to the exterior signs, a 3 Dimensional sign was added to the mix. Using High Density Urethane (a signfoam often referred to as HDU), the sign experts here at The Sign Depot created a oversized wrench. This scupltural projection sign was created to grab the attention of the passing traffic, and serve as a landmark sign for the business.
The Best Business Signs Make An Impact
When the project was completed and installed Dennis, the owner of Integralift, let us know that the new signs made quite an impact. He received new business from people who thought they had just opened and had no idea that Integralift had been there for a year already.
Here at The Sign Depot we encourage our clients to think of their custom signs as an investment in their company. They are a 24 hour advertisment for your business and a display of what your company represents. These are things to think about when budgeting for your signage upgrades and branding designs.
Finding ways to show off your company’s assets through signage is something we excel at. For more information on how street signs can increase business awareness and 3 dimensional signs, be sure to visit our Contact Us Page or connect with us on Twitter and Facebook.

3 Dimensional Signs Are A Smashing Pixels Success
Adding Dimension To Your Custom Business Signs
With winter just around the corner, now is a good time to look at your interior signs. They are one of the first things that your clients see upon entering your establishment, so be sure to leave them with a memorable image of what your company represents. The best way to stand out is to have a 3 dimensional sign custom crafted for your office interior.
Making A Branding Move
One of the best times to work on your business branding is when your company is moving locations. This was the case for Smashing Pixels. Smashing Pixels, a digital marketing and website design agency located in Brantford Ontario, was in the midst of moving their office when we first heard from Kevin Magee. Kevin was looking for custom dimensional sign with the Smashing Pixels logo that fit with the brand both he and Trevor Cherewka created in the Brantford business community. Trevor is no stranger to The Sign Depot either, take a look below when he first visited our workshop for our inaugural designers’ demo day (you can see Trevor’s comments at the 40 second mark in the video below)
With both Kevin and Trevor looking to give their office a professional look, the Smashing Pixels 3 dimensional office sign took shape.
Below are a few images of Smashing Pixels sign being crafted here in our Sign Depot workshop.
The Smashing Pixels sign was a mix of sign substrates. It began with a sandblasted cedar backer
Followed by custom cut acrylic letters mounted to the cedar backer. The combination of wood and acrylic adds dimension and interest to the sign.
The sign was then installed at their new location at Dunsdon St. in Brantford.

3 Dimensional Augmented Reality Created From Retail Signs – Augtober
Adding A Layer To Business Signs
If you have been watching our Twitter page you may already know we have been talking a lot about Augmented Reality this October and have renamed the month Augtober. Here at The Sign Depot we relentlessly strive to stay at the cusp of signage technology. This allows us to offer our clients an abundance of choices when it come to their custom business signs. The development of Augmented Reality, sometimes known as AR, has found a way to take 2 dimensional images and turn them into a 3 dimensional signage experience. If you are wondering how AR works, it is a layering process, where a marker is embedded into a sign. By using a smartphone app, people are able to see the sign brought to life. It is best explained in the article 10 things you need to know about augmented reality
Markers work by having software recognise a particular pattern, such as a barcode or symbol, when a camera points at it, and overlaying a digital image at that point on the screen. If the image is three-dimensional or animated, the effect is of a digital experience unfolding on the surface upon which the pattern is printed.
In an earlier post 3 Dimensional Augmented Reality And The Sign Industry we showed how Marvel was using Augmented Reality with their retail signs to bring superheroes into the store. This creates a unique shopping experience and makes it memorable to those browsing the aisles. Once again retaliers have engaged a younger audience in their locations by launching a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Augmented Reality campaign involving their business signs. You can see it highlighted at the end of this video

Custom Wood Signs Created From Reclaimed Barn Board – Cheeses Murphy
A New Business Signs With A Vintage Look
Our latest installation has brought us to a new area of Downtown Kitchener Ontario. Just blocks away from the new court house is where you can find the newest location for Cheeses Murphy. Just like the concept of this grilled cheese restaurant, the custom business sign for it needed to be unique and tasteful.
Reclaimed barn board with individual cutout letters were used in this framed sign. The fabrication took several steps.
The wood was given a custom finish to give it a distressed look and enhanced the wood grain of the boards. The barn board would serve as a sign backer for the business name. Individual letters were created by CNC cutting half inch PVC on our router table and they were then prepped for pin mounting. A handcrafted wood frame was constructed to surround the sign backer and painted to match the cut out letters. Together these pieces would create a modern sign with a vintage look.
Assembly And Installation
After all the various components of the Cheeses Murphy sign had been manufactured and finished it was time to assemble the sign and install it above the establishment.
The pin mount letters were flush mounted to the barn board backer to add dimension to the sign and the finished wood frame completed the look.
The custom wood sign was installed above the entrance-way and an additional vinyl decal was added to front door to attract the attention of both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
What Will Be Next?
