High Density Urethane Signs For School Of Rock Kitchener-Waterloo
School Of Rock Opens In Kitchener Ontario
Who could forget Jack Black’s performance as Dewey Finn in the film School Of Rock?
Well the School Of Rock Kitchener Waterloo Ontario steps right in where this film left off. Their mission is to inspire the world to rock on stage and in life and they wanted to make a big impact upon their arrival in Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario.
Custom Guitar Logo
The highlight of the School Of Rock’s branding is the letter “O” of the word “ROCK” customized to include a guitar in the letter’s centre
This was created with our CNC Router Table program and cut from High Density Urethane otherwise known as HDU or Sign Foam in the sign industry. It is a material that fully customizable. It can replicate wood, stone, and many designer looks. High Density Urethane can be used in both Interior and Exterior signage which makes it a substrate we use often for crafting our custom signs. The stylized guitar was added as an extra layer to give the sign dimension and finished in red to stand out from the other letters in the sign.
Ready To Rock
Once the School Of Rock sign was fully finished it was taken to the location and installed to building’s exterior, making it a recognizable landmark in that area.
The full signage package was brought together in time for their Grand Opening and as you can see from the pictures on their facebook page it was a great success.

Custom Vintage Look Wood Signs – Truth Beauty’s Business Sign Solutions
The Beauty Of A Distressed Wood Sign
When it comes to Business Sign Solutions we have lots of options to suit a company’s branding. Finding that perfect fit may take more than one type of material to make the establishment recognizable in busy areas. When the The Truth Beauty Company moved from their Olivier location, they took the opportunity to create custom business signs for this new business.
Their store front sign and reception sign was fabricated from repurposed wood to give the signs a vintage look. To add dimension to the custom signs, High Density Urethane (sign foam) letters and designs were CNC cut on our Router table. Those HDU pieces were given custom finishes and then attached to the distressed wood and framed. This gave the Truth Beauty sign 3 dimensional sign elements while keeping with the antique look of the wood.
Add Some Artistic Signage
In addition to the exterior entranceway sign and interior sign and additional artistic fabric wall hanging was created to further showcase the business’s logo. A stencil was cut to match the design and applied to the fabric. Next the design was airbrushed on the material and after the stencil was removed the result was an artistic sign in the form of custom piece of drapery for their location.

How Going For The Gusto Can Become Deeply Distressed
Aging Something Brand New
This project reminded me of the technique to age paper items. Something as simple as dabbing a damp tea bag on a paper surface can suddenly change that sheet of copy paper into a ancient scroll, a treasure map or an antique photo.
We’ve created that distressed look on many of our larger projects through a specialty paint process. By rusting some High Density Urethane (otherwise known as HDU or sign foam) letters we were able to create the distressed look the client wanted to achieve.
We created the custom look with an “instant rust” look created with a Modern Masters reactive paint that contains flecks of metal in the paint, and then activated the paint with the solution that creates the rust effect. Within a few hours the project took on the look a reclaimed sign.
The letters were then attached to a hand painted backer, again created to match the look of aged sign.
Next LED lights were inserted behind the letters to create a halo effect around the restaurant name. This added extra dimension to the sign while making it a practical choice for the restaurant’s visibility. LED lights are economical to run and have a long lifespan. This makes them a great choice for any type of lit sign.
To finish it off the sign was attached to a custom made welded bracket that also went through the quick rusting process. All that was left was the assembly and installation of the sign.
When the sign was fully assembled it found it’s final resting place at the Gusto101 restaurant, which can be found at 101 Portland St. Toronto Ont.
We can hardly wait to see the how the Gusto101 sign looks once it’s lit up! If you’re passing by please take a pic & tweet it to us or upload it to our facebook page.
Sculptural 3 Dimensional Signs – A Fish Out Of Water
or Finding Nemo At The Sign Depot
Over the last few weeks we’ve been watching a new character evolve. The beginning stages of the sign foam structure we best described as “Goldfish Cracker” shape. That day it was decided that we were now Finding Nemo at The Sign Depot
Watching A Sign Foam Fish Can Be Fasinating
To give the sign dimension, sculptural scales were created by hand using a sculpting product and then applying it to the High Density Urethane (sign foam) surface. Then ripply fins, exaggerated eyes, Mick Jagger like-lips and bright coloured paint gave the fish the cartoon-ish look that the client was looking for.
Where will the Fuschia Fish find it’s final destination?
The sign is not for an aquarium, it’s an outdoor address sign. Address and Residential signs can be made to match your own personality, sense of style and/or uniqueness. You can decide on how subtle or stand-out you wish your residential sign to be. We can fully customize your outdoor address signs to your specification. It is always a good idea to have a few things in place in order for you custom sign to meet your expectations. Here are some great things to have prepared when contacting a professional sign designer.
Residential Signs – Where To Start
-
Begin with your favorite colours, pictures, pieces of art etc. all of these will help our professional sign designers create a look and feel that captures your style and taste.
-
Next decide on how large you wish the sign to be. Measurements are key!
-
Choose the text (if any) you wish to display on your sign.
-
Show us where it will be displayed. Take a picture of the area it will be installed. That way the designer will know what other objects are around the area for your custom sign, and can incorporate elements to match.
Whatever your desired scuptural address sign look is, these steps will help in the formation of what may be your guests first impression. OUTSTANDING!
3 Dimensional Signs – Creating A Landmark Sign
Creating a Landmark – Souvenir City Vase
Next a welded steel super structure was manufactured to keep the dimensional sign centred and rigid. This was attached to a fabricated mounting plate.
The turned vase was then installed onto the steel post and surface coated in two layers of 6oz. woven fiberglass cloth to begin the custom sign finishing process
A complete sanding and filling to smooth the surfaceFinally, a crack paint job by Dave to replicate the character of translucent glass. A clear UV top coat to hold the colour, and wax to accentuate the shine on our latest sign prop.
Once this 3 dimensional signs was done and installed it was hard to miss. This is where custom sculptural signs come into play for your company’s findability and wayfinding sign solutions. They become a focal point for passers-by. These 3 dimensional signs get you noticed and make your business memorable.
Even while we were installing this signs folks were stopping by getting their picture taken in front of the vase. They would then make their way into the store and exit with bags in hand. The 3 dimensional vase was already proving to be a worthwhile advertising investment.
