Lately tobogganing has become quite a controversy in Southern Ontario. While we don’t want to get into the politics of it, we want to let everyone know we are on the pro tobogganing side! Want to know why? We think toboggans are multi-purpose when they are used as custom business signs.

Over the years we have had the opportunity to work with several design firms that have high profile clients. Getting to manufacture the signs that compliment the aesthetics of an establishment is something we excel at. Wayne Gretzky’s Sports Bar
Wayne Gretzky’s Sports Bar was one of the first celebrity inspired signs we created. The project came to us through MACKAY WONG DESIGN. This is just one of the many artistic signs we have created with this design firm.
Montecito
More recently we worked with MACKAY WONG DESIGN to create the signs for Ivan Reitman’s Montecito Restaurant. This project garnered a lot media attention being that it was a Toronto International Film Festival hot spot for celebrity sightings, because of it’s close proximity to the TIFF Lightbox.
Balzac’s Coffee Roasters
Through CHAD ROBERTS DESIGN we were able to connect to Balzac’s Coffee Roasters. The name of this cafe may sound familiar to many Canadians as they are well known as the coffee company that was invested in by Arlene Dickenson and Bruce Croxon of Dragon’s Den. We are now the supplier for the Balzac’s brand which has opened several locations in Southern Ontario.

Artistic Sign Design – MARSALA Is The 2015 Pantone Colour Of The Year
Muted Marsala
Earlier this week Pantone announced that Marsala is the 2015 Colour Of The Year.
This is a big step away from last year’s Radiant Orchid, and the brighter tones from the past few years.
While last year’s Radiant Orchid had us conjuring up images in our heads of Kelly Osbourne’s coif, this year Marsala steps in and the colour reminds us of how much we loved hearing Ricardo Montalban speak about corinthian leather.
We would describe Marsala as a muted colour, that could easily blend with earth tones an well as neutral hues. This colour does not have the intense pigment of the colours in recent years so this shade will be a great compliment to many artistic designs.
Many times an understated colour can help your message stand out. As you can see in the picture above, Marsala gives a great contrast to the message on the image without having to give the punch of a bold primary colour.
When it comes to artistic sign design we believe your colour choice is a huge factor when it comes to complimenting your comany’s brand. Colour makes a statement in your business logo, but the choice of colour in the logo design can say far more than you may have realized. Sending Signs To Las Vegas For The First Time
It often seen as a pinnacle in a signmaker’s career to have one of their signs installed in Las Vegas. After 20 years in business The Sign Depot is thrilled to announce we now have reached that goal. Last month we created a vintage-look 3 dimensional sign for Hearthstone Kitchen & Cellar Restaurant located at the Red Rock Casino Resort.
Our Work Is A Reflection Of Your Business And Of Our Craftsmanship
Peter Moir, owner here at Sign Depot always states that the signs we make are a reflection of the business we develop it for, and shows just how talented our expert signmakers are. This often results in calls from companies saying they saw a sign they liked and asked the owner where they got it made and are contacting us to see if we could make a similar one for them. That is the way this signage project for Hearthstone came about. The design team from Munge Leung contacted us about a client of theirs that wanted a sign like the one we created for Gusto 101. That phone call led to the 3 dimensional sign for Hearthstone Kitchen & Cellar.
Finding The Right Fit With Custom Fabrication And Finishes
Creating this vintage looking sign had multiple steps.
1. Custom cut script was created and finished
2. Cut out individual letters were also part of the business name on the sign
3. The letters were affixed to a custom crafted backer
4. Faux rust finish was applied
5. The sign was fitted with LEDs
This is how it looks now that it has been installed in Las Vegas.
This project became quite a grand showpiece for the restaurant, which opened just recently, and we anticipate it will be successful addition to this travel destination.

Finding The Right Fit
In Vintage We Trust began as an online store curating vintage clothing styles for their clients. When the decided to open a retail flagship store in Toronto they wanted their signage to fit with the brand they had built. They wanted a vintage look custom business sign similar to the Gusto101 Restaurant sign that had caught their eye. As any internet savvy business would do, they took to the web and googled Gusto101 sign and The Sign Depot was suddenly on their radar. Much like an online website, a sign is a 24 hour advertisment for your business and you should always ensure it fits with your brand. The owners of In Vintage We Trust knew this to be true and contacted us regarding their exterior signage.
Getting That Vintage Look
When the In Vintage We Trust owners collaberated with the expert sign designers here at Sign Depot, the custom sign concept they conceived was to create a very visable sign but have it look like it was right out of the past. The sign material used was an aluminum composite, to give the look of an old tin sign, but be durable enough to withstand various weather conditions. Their logo and business text was hand painted with 1 shot paint (know to those in the signage industry as the go to paint for sign makers). The paint was distressed to give the look of a weathered exterior sign and then a faux rust finish was applied to the sign further the pantia look. All of these steps were crucial in order for the In Vintage We Trust custom business sign to fit their brand while catching the interest of passers-by.

Community Involvement – Getting Involved In The Grand River Film Festival
Getting To Know GRFF
Earlier this year the artistic sign we created for Ivan’s Reitman’s Montecito Restaurant brought a lot of media attention our way during the Toronto International Film Festival, otherwise known as TIFF. This grabbed the attention of our local film festival known here in Kitchener Waterloo as GRFF which is short for Grand River Film Festival. This film festival looked like a great partner for our community involvement projects and decided to be involved with GRFF for the first time.
Headed For The Big Screen
The Grand River Film Festival provided us with a postive experience. The films were from a variety of genres, ranging from comedic fiction to real life modern day documentaries. Several of the screenings involved Q&A sessions with people involved in the film that was played that day. It added insight into the film and gave you a connection to the message surrounding the it. Adding artistic value and culture to our community is something we can really get behind. The Grand River Film Festival gave our local area a reason to celebrate the great events that happen in our community and displayed a true sense of all that goes into creating a film project. Finding out about films that are not mainstream (yet) gives you a great idea of what is coming next in the film making industry. It was an exciting festival and we were glad to be involved. We were even more excited to see our logo on the big screen!
